Fran Vincent is the author of MySpace for Musicians: The Comprehensive Guide to Marketing Your Music Online and the creator of Retro Island Productions, Inc., a social media, Web PR, and music-industry consulting firm she created in 2005. Before starting her own company, she spent six years as the marketing and public relations specialist for Warner Bros. Publications (WMG), tackling the company’s pop music marketing and overall public relations strategies and execution.

headshotAs a consultant, publicist, and writer, Fran has worked with clients around the world including:  Prince “BlkMagic” Damons; Out of the Ark Music, the UK’s top children’s music publisher; PowerFX, the leading provider of audio samples and loops; Detroit producer and songwriter Andieveboi, who has written with Amp Fiddler and other noted artists; Walter Beasley, Billboard Top 20 Contemporary Jazz artist, performance consultant, and educator; the University of Miami Music Publications catalog featuring high-end performance sheet music and instructional titles; Electronic Musician, the nation’s premiere magazine for home studio musicians; and InTune Magazine, a monthly glossy, whose covers are graced by today’s hottest artists including Jonas Brothers, Kelly Clarkson, and The Fray, and reaches every middle and high school music classroom in the nation.

Through her consulting work, Fran assists clients in building a positive image in their industry, and even takes some into uncharted territory as they break ground in new markets. Clients rely on her to help them craft viral and offline marketing campaigns, build their public profile, position them as experts in their fields, gain greater visibility among customers, fans and their community, and navigate the entertainment industry’s players and pitfalls. Fran’s results-driven PR/marketing campaigns, creative and artistic direction, strategic counseling, relationship-building savvy, and writing and editing skills make her an essential addition to her clients’ in-house teams.

Fran has previously worked for some of America’s most prestigious companies including Warner Bros. Publications, a division of Warner Music Group and Warner/Chappell Publishing, AOL Time Warner, General Motors, Campbell-Ewald Advertising (Chevrolet’s agency of record since 1926), and Independent Newspapers, and is a former journalist and editor herself. In all of her positions, she brings a tireless energy and dedication to her work.

She holds a master’s degree in music business (a hybrid music and business degree) from the University of Miami, and a bachelor’s degree in journalism from Oakland University, both ranked among America’s Best Colleges by U.S. News and World Report.

On top of her business endeavors, Fran is also an accomplished musician, performer, and college instructor. Before returning to her hometown of Detroit, Fran taught marketing, public relations, A&R admin, music licensing, and management courses at the University of Miami, working closely with the next generation of businessmen and women.
